Weekly Reader 10/16/14

Hello Cheer World Families,

This Week:

First things first, we wanted to inform you that you will now receive the Weekly Reader mid-week, vs on Fridays.  As we near competition season, we will need to get communications out prior to leaving for competition weekends!

This weeks email has 2 major topics to discuss, one being the Showcase, the second an adjustment to the competition schedule.  We are calling all volunteers to please sign up and help out with next weekends event.  Be sure to click the Sign Up Genius link below to see when and where we could use a hand.

So what is the Showcase?  It’s not a competition, but we take it just as serious.  It’s not a dress rehearsal, because it’s a live show.  It really is an opportunity for athletes throughout our program to “showcase” their skills in front of our entire Cheer World Family.  The athletes still have an AMAZING performance, but don’t have the stress of competition.

Giving back…

The Showcase is also a chance for our athletes and families to support our community through our collections for the Cleveland Food Bank and the Harvest For Hunger food drive.  Over the past few seasons we have donated a few thousand pounds of food and hope we can continue to provide for this great cause.  There will be donation boxes at the main entrance to the high school the night of the event for collections.

In need of a hand…

An event of this size needs parent volunteers to help make it happen.  Although we Rock The House with lights and sound, we ultimately are working hard at giving these athletes a wonderful kick off event to another amazing season for the C-Dub Nation!

Please CLICK HERE to sign up in a time slot if there is any way you can help out for the Showcase.  We THANK YOU for your support!

 Night of the event

The Showcase will take place at 6830 Mill Road, Broadview Hts. OH 44147 at the Brecksville/Broadview Hts High School gymnasium.  Doors will open at the Main Entrance to the building at 6:00pm.  General Admission is $5 at the door per guest.  Showtime is 7:00pm and should run just over 2 hours long.

There are 2 parking lots at the school.  The “upper lot” will fill up fast, but thanks to Ken Ganley and the Ganley Auto Group we have a Courtesy Shuttle that will pick up guests from the “lower lot” and drop them off by the door.  There will also be rides at the end of the event back down.

For our elderly or handicapped guests, please CLICK HERE to request any special seating and parking needs.  Please have all requests submitted by Wednesday, October 22nd.

Athletes Schedule…

Please CLICK HERE to view the Athlete Report Times & General Information.  Please know that we will have the athletes much earlier than showtime, as we run a short practice for each team the day of the event.  Any athletes who are taking the ACT exam that morning and will not be able to make the required set up time, please CLICK HERE to let us know!

Competition Schedule Adjustment:

Due to many considerations, we have decided to remove the March 14-15 competition in Chicago IL from all teams initially scheduled to go to this event.  We have also decided to NOT have our Midseason Showcase on February 15th, but host regular practices instead.

We are officially adding a “Show Off!” event on 3/15 at CW for all teams!  More information will be out on this in a subsequent communication.

We are also in the process of scheduling clinicians for mid-season routine clean ups!  We are looking to schedule these clinics for teams the weekend of 2/21 -22.  More information will be out soon on this as well.

Haunted House Fundraiser:

Be sure to visit a “Family Friendly” Haunted House/Yard, hosted by Cheer World Zeta’s Head Coach, Tracy Drowns!  Running from 10/12-31, you are welcome to come anytime for a walk thru, day or night!  Donations at the front entrance to support the CW Athletes.

12043 Padua Drive in North Royalton.

This will be featured on Fox 8 News on Thursday 8/16!

“Stay to Play” & what this means to our families: (REMINDER)

Event producers are now using a “Stay to Play” policy for the majority of the events we attend this season.  They do this since the host venue (local convention center, etc) requires proof of how many visitors the event brings into town.  Cheer World would love to not have to utilize these services, but unfortunately have our hands tied by the event producers with consequences going as far as disqualification.  We feel it is a bit of an over the top threat, but it would be horrible if our athletes performed at their best but were penalized due to staying outside of the approved hotel list.

For families traveling to Dallas this season, this policy is 100% mandatory.  We will be sending out a Formstack in November to collect needed confirmation numbers, etc.  There is a Housing Exception Form that must be submitted by 10/31/14.  “Exceptions will be approved or denied by 11/14.”
